To shut Windows 8 down, simply move the mouse pointer to the lowest right corner of the screen, click the Settings icon - or simply hold down the Windows key and press I - and you will see an influence button. Click this and select 'Shut Down' or 'Restart'.
Some of the tricks offered in previous versions of Windows still apply. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del, as an example, click the facility button within the bottom right-hand corner and you will be given with an equivalent 'Shut Down' and 'Restart' choices.

And if you are on the desktop, press Alt+F4 and you will be able to select 'Shut Down', 'Restart', 'Sign Out' or 'Switch User' choices.
